Raven,

You titled this post Help! It really helps if you title the post something to do with you question. Help makes it sound like an emergency.
I meant that in the most friendliest way, It is so hard to do research on a subject if someone is looking for the same information to have to sort thru a thousand posts one day that are titled "help".

You Cannot tell any snakes gender by behavior unless you see them mate. If you see one of their hemi's you might have a male *winks*

I recommend you find a snake person who knows how to probe and get your snake sexed. If you have not tried it before, please don't. It's easy to learn but, I strongly recommend a mentor.

Thanks for the tip. Being the holidays, I shot this off in a hurray. My red-tail boa has been acting differently than usual. Seemingly more moody. He/she is close to 2 years old and I've never had it sexed. I know that felines will behave differently when ovulating and didn't know if this would happen with snakes. This is my first large snake. I also have a rosy boa that is older and pretty steady in personality. I have had Cowboy from a young age and he/she has always been easy going, until recently. Lately, Cowboy has been more cranky. Maybe it is just a maturity issue. I know more about felines than snakes.

Sorry it took me awhile to get back to the thread. The holidays kept me off-line, then I've been catching up with my forum duties.

thanks,
Raven

Speaking from experience. The only way to tell it sex is to have it probed and even then, someone can miss.

A male snake has two hemipene's and they are kept in a pocket inside it cloaca. When using a probe your trying to find whether the pocket is deep enough to keep those in. If you have not sex alot of snakes, you won't be able to have anything to compare to. I easy to miss if you haven't done it before many times.

Not, that your thinking of trying but, I like to lay the facts out because you never know know reads open forums.

I have heard horror stories of some dumba$$'s sticking knitting needling up their snakes butt and killing them, trying to sex them the redneck way!!

If you ever around East Texas we will be happy to sex your snake for you!
