I rescued a female pigeon several years ago. She was wandering along side a highway in a parking lot--I have always liked pigeons, but then again, there isn't an animal, bird or reptile that I do not like. She had either been hit by a car or shot--after giving her antibiotics for awhile, part of her wing atrophied and fell off. So she became a pet--I had no idea the personality these birds have and they fear nothing--she takes on my pekingnese, my Danes and baby raccoons--she is a trip! She makes a really neat sound when she attacks things, like my husband's feet--she is really out for blood then! She follows me around like a dog when she is out of her cage--when I have my sanctuary, I will use a headshot of her as the symbol, she has inspired me so.

aww thats awesome, pigeons and doves really do make great pets. i rescued to baby pigeons once after seeing the mother hit by a car and giving ample time for any other birds to possibly adopt the baby (or some species of doves the fathers take on responsibility) but these were left out alone so i took them in and my friend helped me to bring them up, we released them in her yard and they stuck around for a whie but eventually flew off, we think somewhere north becuase they tend to return for a few weeks int he winter Smile

Kudos to you, that is great! I have always wanted to see a baby pigeon, crow or vulture. I would love to raise a crow or raven and vultures are cool too. I think it is a crock that you have to be federally licensed to handle raptors--many "backwoods folk" here in Florida have successfully raised raptors and set them free--just because you are licensed does not mean you will be successful!
